The recent Taste of Germantown event will long be remembered as one of the most successful events of 2014. The people of Germantown turned out in big numbers to support their local restaurants as well as the Germantown Kiwanis Club which sponsored the event. Germantown Kiwanis had cooked up this event with the support of area restaurants. The idea was to create a fun activity for Germantown families in Fireman’s Park in the heart of the village of Germantown. The event was held on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Germantown Kiwanis was literally taken by surprise at the numbers of people who attended. The support was from the community was much appreciated.
Kiwanis was hoping that the festival of food would draw attention to their project of building a permanent Performing Arts Pavillion in Fireman’s Park. To that end there were a variety of local groups who performed in the area where the Kiwanis Performaning Arts Pavillion is slotted to be built.
Imagine mouth watering entrees, tastes to delight your culinary fantasies, all available in one place at one time. This was an event you did not want to miss. As a result of the turnout for this inaugural event, Germantown Kiwanis is considering making Taste of Germantown a yearly festival. Open to the public, this unique dining experience was an opportunity for local restaurants to offer their signature entrees. The evening was highlighted by music and entertainment by local groups. Many of these groups who entertained here Thursday will benefit from a theatrical structure such as the one Kiwanis is offering to construct.
Once the pavillion is built in Fireman’s Park it will be given to the Village of Germantown and the Park and Rec department will make it available for the community to use. Community groups that have asked to be considered for its use include the Germantown Community Band, Imagination Theater and the Germantown High School Band. The Park and Rec department would like to begin a Music in the Park program; the pavillion will be available for weddings, Eagle Scout ceremonies and dance recitals. The Kiwanis 4th of July festivities will also include performances at the pavillion. It is a centrol location for young and old to perform and a destination for our community to gather and be entertained.
Construction on the Performing Arts Pavillion will begin in 2015 and be complete for the Summer of 2016. There will be access from Crusader court. A map is available.
