Germantown Students Receive Kiwanis Scholarships


Two Germantown High School students won Kiwanis Club scholarships at  Senior Scholarship Awards Night ceremonies at Germantown High School Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Germantown Kiwanis Club President Dwayne Ketterer presented the Jim Lynch/Mike Micka Memorial Scholarship for $1,500 to Madeline Rodriguez (shown above right), and the Kiwanis Club Scholarship of $1,500 to Mary Thao (above left.) The high school seniors were chosen for these awards because of their volunteer work and exceptional activities in their communities.


Ms. Rodriguez plans to attend Edgewood College majoring in Child Life and Spanish. Organizations she participated in at GHS: Cup of Controversy, Key Club, National Honor Society, Peer Listeners, Spanish Honor Society, Student Council, E.W.S., Environmental Club, Political Club and Best Buddies. Outside of GHS she also participated in dance with Nancy Diane Studios, and did various community volunteer activities.


Ms. Thao plans to attend Marquette University with a major in the medical related fields. Her participations at GHS included: Key Club, National Honor Society, E.W.S., FBLA, and the Environmental Club. Outside of GHS she participated in volunteer activities with the Germantown Recreation Department, Youth Futures and elementary and KMS activities.


During this year’s Senior Scholarship Awards Night scholarships were awarded by the Germantown Community Scholarship Fund in the amount of $127,200. The Germantown Kiwanis Club is one of the organizations that supports the GCSF by sponsoring scholarship funds to help offset the expense of college.
